In accordance with the initiative of the Government of Maharashtra, Aruna Manharlal Shah Institute of Management & Research (AMSIMR) organized a series of events from 20th January 2026 to 24th January 2026 aimed at encouraging students to appreciate, use, and promote the Marathi language and to create awareness about its rich cultural, literary, and intellectual heritage.
Under this initiative,
1. Presentations on Accomplished Marathi Personalities
Date: 20 January 2026
Students delivered presentations on renowned personalities who have Marathi as their mother tongue and have made significant contributions in their respective fields. The presentations covered inspiring figures such as:
Air Force Marshal: Mr. Bhushan Gokhale
Astrophysicist: Dr. Jayant Naralikar
Playback singer: Ms. Lata Mangeshkar
Renowned writer: Mr. P. L. Deshpande
Olympic shooter and medalist: Ms. Anjali Bhagwat, among others
The session helped students understand the global impact of Marathi personalities and instilled a sense of pride in the Marathi language.
2. Creative Writing and Elocution Competitions
Date: 21 January 2026
Various competitions such as Story Writing, Poetry Writing, and Elocution were organized. Students actively participated and showcased their creativity, linguistic skills, and command over the Marathi language. These activities encouraged original thinking, effective communication, and appreciation of Marathi as a medium of artistic expression.
3. Presentation on the Journey of Marathi Literature
Date: 23 January 2026
Students gave a detailed presentation on the evolution of Marathi literature, tracing its journey from ancient times to the modern era. The presentations highlighted:
Different phases of Marathi literature
Various literary forms such as poetry, drama, novels, and essays
Eminent literary figures who contributed significantly to the growth of Marathi literature
This session enhanced students’ understanding of Marathi’s rich literary heritage and its continued relevance in contemporary times.
4. Debate Competition
Date: 24 January 2026
A thought-provoking debate was organized on the topics:
“What is the future of Marathi-medium schools?”
“Why are parents hesitant to send their children to Marathi medium schools?”
Students presented diverse viewpoints and discussed societal perceptions, challenges, and possible solutions. The debate encouraged critical thinking and meaningful dialogue on the role of Marathi-medium education in today’s globalized environment.
The Marathi Language Conservation Fortnight celebrations at AMSIMR were successfully conducted and well received by students. The series of events effectively fulfilled the objectives of promoting, preserving, and encouraging the use of the Marathi language. Such initiatives contribute significantly towards sustaining linguistic heritage and fostering cultural awareness among the younger generation.
