Dr. Jayshree Sharma, Professor & Head, Department of Transfusion Medicine, Sheth G. S. Medical College & K. E. M. Hospital, Mumbai, was invited as the Chief Guest to commemorate International Women’s Day on March 8, 2016. She emphasized women empowerment and financial independence. She gave an overview of the socio-economic achievements of women.

Dr. Sharma expressed her perceptions on celebration of women as personification of love, affection and care. She interacted with the audience on topics relating to medical and health issues. She spoke about Blood Donation and said that since blood can be stored for limited period only, blood banks need regular collection. People who may have failed or damaged kidneys may need dialysis also.

Interacting with female staff and students, she spoke about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene practices to be followed by women. She spoke about the importance of having proper and nutritious breakfast, diet and exercise in the regular routine. She advised them to drink lot of water for getting hydrated and also for preventing the occurrence of many infections.

With many years of experience of teaching in medical college, Dr. Sharma spoke about the changing attitude and approach of the student community in general and especially in the case of medical education. She wanted students to be more responsible, accountable and disciplined as part of their professional endeavors. The students were overwhelmed by the informative discussion.
