A brief information was given to the students pertaining to MILLETS in a session that they are coarse grains with high nutritional value. It was also informed them that the Government of India proposed to the United Nations for declaring the year 2023 as the ‘Interntional Year of Millets’ to the world and that it was supported by 72 countries and thus the United Nation’s General Assembly (UNGA) declared 2023 as the ‘International Year of Millets’ on 5 th March 2021.

A PPT presentation was made showing some of the millets grown in our country that are rich in B-vitamins, phosphorus, potassium, iron, calcium, magnesium, fiber and amino acids. It was explained that our country produces a variety of millets but are consumed by people in the villages and not known to people in the urban places. Therefore, the theme for the International Year of Millets is ‘Harnessing the untapped potential of millets for food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture’.
